Mar 19, 02:27 PM · from the mouth of Andy

I think it’s high time we start thinking about our annual summer get-together. Is there anything you guys would particularly like to do, or any particular place you’d like to go? In recent years we’ve done Colorado, Viriginia/North Carolina, Delaware, and most recently CT for Tyler’s wedding.

So naturally, I think it’s high time you all came to NYC! There’s plenty to do here: museums (including one about sex), aquariums and gardens, parks, hiking not too far away, beaches, free outdoor concerts, breweries, bars, baseball (including $8 tickets for the shitty-ass Mets), famous tourist destinations, shows: you name it, we’ve got it. Oh, and Bryan, did I mention that we have AQUARIUMS? ;-)

But I’m certainly open to suggestions if you guys have other ideas.

Is there any good time for any of you? My summer is obviously relatively free with summer vacation and all, but 4th of July weekend and labor day weekend would be ideal times for me to skip town. If we want to do NYC, I could have you guys literally anytime in July or August.

So let’s get brainstorming so we can keep the tradition alive!

Hit me! [14]

Well I’m in favor of that!

I have to say that I don’t get all that much vacation time, and I’ve already got most of it spoken for. But that’s okay. I can always take unpaid vacay. Or we could just do a long weekend or something.

But yeah. I’m a big fan of New York, and I’d be totally down with that. Rock on, Mr. Pease.

An update on vacation ideas. I’m not mentioning this as an alternative to NYC, ‘cause I still want to do that. But here’s another idea for anyone who’s interested:

Some of our Roger Williams friends (you remember them from the wedding, I’m sure) and I went to a cabin on a lake in Maine for a week last year. It was the bomb diggity. We had a great time. Anyway, we’re planning the same trip again this year, but fewer people have given a definate “yes” so far. And if there aren’t enough people, we’ll have to cancel. And we don’t want that!

So Jess had the idea to invite you guys! Here’s the deal, if you’re interested:

It’s going to be the third week in August, from the 12th to the 19th. It’s on a little lake in the middle of nowhere of Maine, not too far from the New Hampshire border. The cabin is big enough to sleep 10 (unlike our cabin in Delaware), but there’s only one bedroom (and Jess and I have already called it, ‘cause we have dogs). But there are lots of beds and couches. The lake it awesome and it’s a two second walk to the beach. There’s a grill and a fire pit for lots of cooking and fires and marshmallows.

It’s about a half-hour to the nearest little town, so basically we spent the whole week swimming and sunbathing and cooking and, of course, drinking.

So let me know if anyone is interested. The only definates right now are me and Jess, Michelle, and Tiffany. Michelle’s boyfriend Steve is a maybe, and so are Sivan and her fiancĂ© Steve.

Here’s a link to the webpage of the cabin. It doesn’t do it justice, but you get the idea.

Oh yeah, I forgot to add a few things:

First, the cabin is dirt cheap. It’ll probably work out to about $100 per person for the week. Maybe less.

Next, I should have mentioned that there’s a canoe and a paddle boat. Last year I paddled out to the middle of the lake late at night, and I’ve never seen stars like that in my life!

Also, there’s a full kitchen, stocked with pots, pans, and utensils. Also has a coffee pot (that’s KEY!)

Full bathroom. Also key, as we know from our trip to Delaware!

    So yeah. Let me know.

Well I’d have to argue we really didn’t do CT. But since we’re all from here, it makes more sense to do things in other places anyway.

NYC sounds pretty cool, I’d only wonder how much more of the state we could see.

The cabin sounds interesting, but at least the beginning would conflict with my summer frisbee tournament.

I’m hopped up on cold medicine currently, so my reply is short and unintelligible. But I’m totally interested in this discussion.

  5. Andy responds with:

Ty, I’m psyched on the Maine idea. Like I said, my summer vacation makes things rather free for me. =) I may have to come on the monday or something depending on the wind ensemble schedule, but I’ll let you know. Lisa would most likely not make it, since her vacation days are limited.

I’m glad you guys are into the NYC idea. Jake, we could definitely get out of the city on a few occassions. Bear Mtn. is only an hour’s drive away, and there are many other day-trip type destinations we could try, like Montauk Point, the Catskills, Atlantic City, the Jersey Shore, or even good old Durham. Don’t forget there’s also PLENTY to do within the city!

nice new shamrock banner, whoever posted that!

  6. TyTy responds with:

Here’s an evite to the Maine trip.

Actually, that might’ve been specifically for my email address, so I’ll send out personal evites to all of you….

  7. Jim responds with:

K, so – vacy time for me is also going to be tight, so it’s unlikely that i’ll be able to do both. being an uncle now dictates that i spend a tiny bit more time going to AZ to visit my sister and see the spawnling that is ever so hyper cute and neat.

unfortunately with my job so up in the air (as usual), i’m really not going to be able to commit to much of anything until after we get more info on when the buyout is going to close and what the integration is going to look like. then, depending on the outcome of that (most likely a negative one i might add), i’ll be able to have a better idea of what i can do (i figure i’ll just drink my unemployment away.) ;)

in any case, either idea sounds good. i have a feeling that sarah and i, given the choice, would probably be a tiny bit more for ME, but then again, daguys is daguys…

  8. Jim's Girlie responds with:

Um, so I know I’m not a guy, let alone a goofy guy… but I miss you guys too :o( (and I miss how Jim is around you guys, maybe minus the belching contest… but I can live with that…) So let me know if there is anything girls are allowed to come to!

  9. TyTy responds with:

Well I can’t speak for everyone on the New York thingy, but you’re totally invited to the cabin!! You’d have to live in close proximity to a handful of the people you met at the wedding for a week, but I can think of worse things. Personally I’d love to see you either way.

  10. TyTy responds with:

Sorry Jake, I moved your Old Cartoons posting back to a day behind this one… this conversation still needs to go somewhere.

So if we were to do a New York thing, how should we do it? A long weekend? Maybe even a double long weekend (i.e. us working types take a Friday AND Monday off).

Bryan text messaged me the other day to find out when we were planning on taking this trip, but I couldn’t give him an answer ‘cause we never worked out a date. So let’s get this conversation going again.

Obviously the cabin dates are off for me (August 12th – 19th) and I’ll probably have a tough time getting anytime around the 4th of July off, because my coworker is getting married. But otherwise….........

Oh and Sarah- you may not be a guy, but you’re definitly Goofy. Consider yourself a member of the club. :)

  11. Andy responds with:

Yay for more chatter on summertime!

Sarah, I agree with Tyty 100%. I’m glad you appreciate the Jimothy that Jim turns into when he’s around us. Those were the good old days… clearly if you can put up with that then you have our permission to keep Jim.

Now, turning to a potential NYC trip, we can host you guys literally ANY TIME during the summer. The only weekend that’s completely off limits is July 22nd, when my cousin Rebecca is getting married (leaving me the oldest cousin by 8 years on either side to be unwed). How does Labor Day weekend sound? If you guys took just Friday off, we’d have the entire weekend AND monday to play! It could be good – or we could even decide to take THURSDAY too, if we feel ambitious. Either way, later summer is better for me, because we won’t be completely finished moving until 4th of July or so. But I TOTALLY want you guys to come! Read all the stuff above if you’ve forgotten all the good things we could do.

    Keep the comments coming!

  12. Jim's Girlie responds with:

Awwww thanks tha guys, I feel so special!!

Okay so here’s tha thang. Jim and I are totally psyched for the cabin thing, but there’s a catch: the cabin is from the 12th to 19th… but my butt has to be sitting in a chair at CU’s campus on the 17th for a “mandatory” meeting for student teaching. I’m not sure how mandatory “mandatory” is, but I don’t feel like messing with the teaching gods. It’s annoying, b/c it’ll prolly only be an hour and a waste of my time, but… oh well.

Anyways, Jim and I were talking, and we were thinking that we’d still like to go to the cabin the 12-16. It would probably be best if Jim didn’t use a whole week of vacation, too, so it would work out if it is okay with ev’rybuddy. We might even show up on the 10th or 11th depending on which day had the cheapest airfare… and hang out with somebody.

Ty, which airport would be best to fly into? What is the best way of getting to the cabin?

Aaand then maybe you could have Jimothy again for labor day, not sure about that one but I’m pretty sure I couldn’t go b/c I can’t take off of student teaching for an extra day early… but Jim might be able to and then you could still have your “guy” time ;o) Hurray guy time. Maybe… but I can’t really speak for Jim for sure ;o)

    Okie dokies… well thanks guys!

    · Apr 16, 02:07 AM
  13. Andy responds with:

whatever. I can tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about student teaching. you should totally stay up at the cabin. besides, having you guys there gives me extra incentive to go!

I’m glad you’re making it back east again!

    · Apr 16, 10:54 AM
  14. TyTy responds with:

Well, I guess where you fly to depends on when you want to go. If it’ll be the 10th or 11th, it’d probably be best to fly to JFK or LaGuardia or something and hang with Andy for a day or two. If it’ll be late on the 11th or on the 12th, fly into Boston and Jess and I will pick you up on our way. Or I suppose you could even fly to Portland ME, but it’s not super close and it’s prolly tough for you guys (i.e. connecting flights).

But yeah, look into how absolutely mandatory that meeting is. But either way, it’ll be great to have you there! It’ll be a super fun time!
