In the New York Times

Oct 18, 08:23 PM · from the mouth of Andy

There was a great Times article today about porters. They talk about the history and recent revival of the whole porter genre, then they rank a few of them. Strangely enough, I’ve had a few of the ones that they mentioned. We brought Anchor Porter with us to Maine, their #10. I swear I’ve had the Geary’s before – that’s #1! And one of the beers they mention as terrible, the Rogue Porter, was the one I tried at Sunset Grill in Boston on the way up to Maine. And they’re right – it wasn’t very good!

They also ran a bit about the Russian download site that Tyty once mentioned, AllOfMP3 . Looks like someone wants to shut them down!

I hope everyone’s well. Who’s gonna be around for Thanksgiving?

Ni!

I'm a little verklempt - discuss! [2]

Good article! I’ve had the Anchor Porter of course, as well as the Smutty Nose, and the I LOVE Otter Creek’s Stovepipe Porter. I think that was the beer that got me into beer. I used to drink it at a German restaurant I worked at in RI. They had all German and Belgian beers on tap, and the Otter Creek Stovepipe Porter was their only American beer. I used to drink it from a tall pilsner glass after a long night of bussing tables. A great beer. I also really like the Rouge Mocha Porter, which they didn’t like as much. In fact I had one just the other night. However, what they didn’t like about it (an overwhelming hop character) is probably what I love about it. I’m a hop head. I admit it. One exciting thing about the article is that it showed a photo of The Porterhouse, a small chain of brewpubs in England and Ireland. There are 5 of them. Jess and I spent the evening in the Temple Bar location in Dublin whilst on our anniversary!

Interesting article about AllOfMP3… Yeah, I knew they wouldn’t last very long. I heard mention of them on my local news a few months ago, and even a reference to a Russian download site on an episode of The Office last year!

Sadly not coming home for Thanksgiving this year. My parents are actually coming to us for turkey day!

Also, I’d like to contest the assertion that it’s my favorite download site. True, I used it for a while, trying to convince myself that it might not be entirely illegal… But whatev. Nowadays I get most of my music from iTunes an eMusic. And from time to time, I even buy an actual physical CD once in a while!
