I cracked...

Dec 1, 01:09 PM · from the mouth of Jim

Well, it happened – I couldn’t wait any longer and decided to “bide my time.” Yes boys, I am the proud parent of a HUGE credit card debt, once again. But man does it take purty pictures.

I decided that it’s not realistic to believe that Nikon will have the D90 (aka D200) out on the streets much before an April time line. It’ll probably be announced in Feb. but if the D2x is any example of their market to street performance, it’ll take a few months after they announce it for it to hit the streets.

So, I’m getting my feet wet with a shiny new D70. Nikon is pimping them out with the craziest deals and rebates right now, so I put a whole kit together for buttass cheap comparitively.

For the yackmeister, I bought an SB-800 flash (since my 28-DX can’t talk TTL with the D70), a 24-85 3.5-4.5 AF-S lens, a 1GB Sandisk CF card and the D70 body. With all my other lenses, I now have a rather complete kit (well, except that I can’t get any lower than 36mm on the digital – someday I’ll spend the $1200 and buy the 12-24 DX lens.)

Anyway, here are some test shots that I took yesterday at high noon. They’re nothing terribly special and I was playing with different color spaces and all that, so hopefully there’ll be better ones to come. I also haven’t bolted my nicest (aka, the BIG gun) lens onto it, so I should have some pretty nice pics after I shoot with that one. My BIG gun should produce some sick pics on this body.

    Holy crap!!!

And I just wanted that boring A95…

Of course I already have the huge credit card debt. Congratulations on getting such a nice piece of machinery though. :) And if you’re feeling generous, help a brotha out with my free aspirations. (And you don’t need to do TyTy’s buy something offer. I don’t think it’s gonna go through Mr. Nevins since you didn’t actually buy anything, they check it. But maybe you can cancel it and try a different one if you don’t mind.)

Man I am really bad at bothering people about this stuff. I feel like a jerk trying to get people to take time out of their day just to get me something free.

What the? I was just commenting and more information magically appeared before my eyes…

Well I def envy your new toys Yimmy. I’m just glad you’ll make good use of them.

Good point about waiting. You can probably wait till next xmas and just put yourself in debt again then and get a “D200.” Aaaaand still use all the stuff you just bought besides the body.

I can’t wait to see some more pictures.

And speaking of pictures, I was thinking of saing f-u to Internet Explorer users and setting up a nice random image script for the header and lay a PNG graphic of “Goofy Guys” on top of it. Then everyone could insert their own headers (cropped to some undetermined size) right in the database and they’d be put up on every page. :) What do you think of that idea?

Oooh, I like that idea Jake. That’d be fun as hell. Do it. I’m using Firefox as my primary browser, so I personally don’t care about saying FU to IE. :)

Wow Jimmy. Gorgeous photos! I don’t know too much about all that technical photo mumbo jumbo, but I know a perdy picture when I see one. I love the one of the berries particularly.

Wow, all that snow and ice already! Here in Virginy it’s still around 55-60 degrees. Cool, but only light jacket weather. No snowshoes here.

And to Jake… what you said about the PNG and the script and the database and the blahbadeebloo… Is that English? I have no clue what you’re talking about, so I can’t really tell you what I think of that idea!

But yeah, I tend to use either Safari of Firefox these days.

Ohhh… snowshoes… you bastard – having to go off and remind me that I vowed to do more snowshoeing this year. Grrr… now I wanna grab my gear and head up to Ward. (Oh yeah… and having snowshoes would help.)

    Stupid Wurk…

    Well TyTy,

I had some interesting ideas to play off what I just added, but I think I’ll keep it clean. Maybe just do a basic PNG thing, cause the text up there has a shadow in Safari/Omniweb but not anywhere else right now.

But as you can see by refreshing, we now have header images. It may change in the future, and I’m accepting comments. What you would do is create an image that’s 770px wide by 130px tall and upload it like any other, but in the image options screen you select the random header category. Now it’ll be in the rotation.

We should probably keep it at like 10-20 pictures or something. Unless you guys want a new image hypothetically on every page you look at in a marathon 200 page viewing. ;)
