Sarah Cantrell :: @Sea Blog Up!

Jan 16, 09:53 PM · from the mouth of Jim

Come one, come all! Witness first-hand, a previously unseen spectacle that will provide hours of entertainment for you and the whole family!

Announcing: Sarah Cantrell :: @Sea

I had it mostly ready for the public a few days ago, but with the departure frenzy, it’s been hard to find time to polish and announce it. However, my dear girlfriend has officially left the country so everyone should sworm to the blog and read the whopping two entries that have been posted thus far.

It still needs a touch of polishing (especially the photo gallery), so please excuse the occasional inconsistencies between color schemes and all that fun. This is my first adventure into CSS and it’s been an interesting roller coaster ride.

Hopefully Sarah will have the time and access to use this and we’ll all be able to live vicariously through her. My friends – this’ll probably be the closest thing to culture that any of us will ever get. :)

Anyway, enjoy!

When I look at it in Safari, the postings appear as a very thin line on text going down the right side of the page. I’m beginning to like Safari less and less. Thought you ought to know.

Poor Jimmy has to say bye bye to his female love slave for a few months. (A few months, right?) Oh well. You’ll survive. Now you can use this time to discover the mysteries lying deep within your navel. Or you can cheat on her with yourself. Commence “Operation: Self-Love”!

Blah, reminder to self: run through validators after every change… :) I had forgotten to end a tag, so that may have been what safari was pooched up about. Then again, who knows – but now the HTML and CSS are validated so I can rest at night. :)

Anyblah, TyTy, can you check with Safari again?

Yeah… me miss my woman a lot already. 3 days into 3.5 months and I already want her back. Alas, I just have to wait until my birthday and then it’s off to South Africa to reunite.

Whooof… Yeah, I’m planning on it. I need a serious valium, though, after lookng at flight prices. I am stubbornly looking at doing it myself through travelocity and I’m about ready to weep myself to sleep. prices ranging from $2500 to $7000. Ummm… yeah, time to call a travel agent.

Anyway, back to the point. My aunt is living in Capetown for a year helping set up what’s going to be one of the largest HIV centers there so far. (Or that’s what my dadooo has told me she’s doing.) In any case, Sarah’s going to be in Capetown in late March. (Arriving my birthday and staying for four days, ironically.)

In any case, the plan was to fly out there and meet her, spend a week with my aunt and with Sarah and then head back. With my aunt out there anyway, this just seems like a once in a life time opportunity. I’ll be paying for it for the rest of my life… but what the hell – right? right? RiGHt?!

    God I’m gonna be poor…

Anyway, yeah, so back to the hunt for a sub-$2000 ticket. 27 hour flight… here i come. Oy.

_(Thanks for letting me know that it’s fixed now.)_

And THIS is why I think Sarah is perfect for Jim:

”...this is the (very) condensed version. Anyway blah. Moo. There just isn’t enough time to do everything AND write it down! Ack. Anyway‚Ķ so I finally got to bed at like…”

”...the internet here is being finicky and slow :o) Go fig. Anymoo, we finally got back and…”

True, I haven’t actually MET her, but if you read her postings on her blog, you’ll wonder if he actually asexually reproduced, split in half like an ameoba, and ejected a female counterpart of himself! Good catch, Jimmy!

(This one’s for Jim and Jake…)

Dude! I totally dig the photo gallery thing on Sarah’s blog! Is there any way to do that on ours? It’s very cool. Jim, does she have to format each picture to have a matching thumbnail, or does that happen automatically? Just wondering how much grunt work she has to do on her end to post a gallery like that.

    Word. And well done.

  7. Jim responds with:

Totally automagic. Gallery is uber-swell and powerful. Sweet admin interface and a ton of features. You can nest galleries within other galleries and do all kinds of cool stuff. It has a really nice upload interface too – totally java applet driven. You can upload hundreds of images just with a standard, nice, java file browser. You can even rotate them and do other stuff while you’re uploading. All the thumnails and everything are all generated automagically, but you can even configure their sizes and all that.

If’n you guys are interested, I’d be more than happy to setup some example accounts on We could create a gallery and only have it viewable to those that have logged in successfully.

For Jake… the CSS layout is really klugey, so tweaking it to match the blog’s theme was painful. That’s just about the only major downfall that I’ve discovered so far.

P.S. Glad you approve of her TyTy… otherwise I’d have to cut you up and eat you.

I’m wracking my brain to remember if she’s ever made such sounds… maybe it’s just a typing thing… maybe Jim is really just the man who lives in her fingers…

BTW- jim, i never realized that you’d so successfully corrupted her… congrats! :)

This is totally unrelated, but didn’t think it was worth it’s own post. I was clicking around looking for monkey pictures for my new monkey header, and stumbled upon this fun website.

She’s a girl from Ohio who paints and draws funny little comics. Check it out, it’s pretty amusing.

  10. Jake responds with:

Hmm… Well I was actually non-actively looking for a gallery app that would work well with our weblog.

I’ve seen Gallery, but like Jim says it can be kludgy. Version 2 is supposed to be better, but that’ll require a wait.

Albumpattern is basically made for Textpattern so it might be a little better. But I haven’t had a chance to play with it at all.

PopPhoto looks pretty good but it costs a small fee to actually buy it. Obviously we could swing 60 bucks if we really wanted that gallery app. And if were ever that crazy we could charge people to download high res versions of photos, or put in a simple watermark if we didn’t want people to steal things. Probably overkill and unnecessary, but who knows.

Basically I’d love something along the lines of what Doug Bowman has. He can even use iPhoto to upload images without too much work. Though it uses a technology that is still “in development” for Textpattern. So who knows when that would actually function 100%.

I’ll keep my eyes open and we’ll try and figure something out. If anyone wants to give their opinion I’m all ears.

By that logic, Shane, I get to corrupt you..this has distinct possibilities 0 : )

Ooohh, all y’all shut up. I’m not corrupted I just don’t even realize I’m doing it :o) It’s his fault!!!!!

Okay so maybe I am easily influenced…

So here I am in Hong Kong. Just thought I’d say hi :o)
