I just had to include this article about Lord British for the awesome quote…

10 Year Reunion

Nov 12, 05:10 PM · from the mouth of Jake

So this morning I got an interesting text message from Alicia Bethke. Apparently our class reunion is the 24 th of November. I wish I had known about this earlier as I have something that conflicts. But I thought all of you guys should know about it if you hadn’t heard. I know I hadn’t. To add insult to injury apparently the RSVP deadline is today. I’ll share this on Facebook and include Carla’s email address in a comment so you guys can respond.

I would have posted this immediately this morning, but I was hoping for some more information.

Sharing my post on Re¢ently

Just in case you guys don’t see this on my other weblog I thought I’d mention it here. I have to admit that this is probably more interesting to Andy but it should at least remind everyone of our classic video game days.

Reminiscing With The Final Fantasy Retrospective

Here’s the first part directly.

I need a hug

Nov 21, 10:24 PM · from the mouth of Jim

On my way back from picking up my car, I was sitting at the very last light before my house when BAM, I watched a nearly brand new Maxima t-bone a Camry at about 40. I was first in line to turn, so it was front row seating. I called 911, threw my blinkers on and got out to make sure everyone was ok. Several other people were doing the same, so there was plenty of response. The people in the Camry jumped right out, while the lady in the Maxima cleared her a) head b) all the airbags that were limply surrounding her.

Since the Maxima turns into a gigantic marshmallow on that type of impact, I have no doubt that the lady driving it will be fine, but it’s so very upsetting to witness still. That’s the second really nasty accident that I’ve witnessed this year and I don’t know why, but it really just leaves me feeling so… i don’t know… just like a need a gigantic hug.

I think I’ll have Sarah drive me very carefully back to the auto shop to go get my pickup after she’s home from working (I had just picked up my Acura from having a frightful amount of work done on it and had to leave the truck since no one was around to drive me there). Then, I think I’ll be done with driving for the evening.

I was going to run out and make a test romp on the Acura, but I have this lingering feeling that the cosmos would prefer that I don’t drive (Brandon will undoubtedly be disappointed since I’m sure he’s gonna really want to feel the car). After watching the accident, I dropped my bags and the car giblets off in the garage and took the car out to confirm that the rattles I was hearing were just from the parts in the back flopping around. On my way around the long block, I watched a gigantic F250 have road rage on someone’s butt and then had someone nearly pull right out in front of me in perfect alignment for a similar t-boning. If I hadn’t been in ultra-paranoid mode and had leaned on the gas a bit harder, I most definitely would have yanked the guy’s’ bumper off.

Bleh, so much to ponder… life is a really fast, precious thing.

Say what now?

Jul 21, 12:48 PM · from the mouth of Jake

I thought about doing a more extensive update to that last comment, but I noticed a couple things I should point out to the masses. So screw life updates… The world is a lot more than me… ;)

TMNT Teaser

TMNT Teaser Screen Capture I’m curious? Does this mean we’ll be watching a 3D version of Joe Versus The Volcano for Andy’s birthday next year?

Minireminder

Coming to us from Gizmodo. Late birthday present for John and his cell phone that he forgets all the time? Maybe with my next paycheck…

I thought there was more than two link in my numerous tabs I have open in Firefox right now… Huh, I’ll just add onto this post as the day progresses if anything else comes up…

Lalala... I'm not listening! [6]

Totally random thoughts...

Oct 18, 11:27 AM · from the mouth of Jake

I haven’t anyhting lately, I hadn’t even posted anything exciting over on Re¢ently till last night. That is since writing about Serenity a couple weeks ago. Which reminds me, if you can go see it, do. It’s more about the characters than the sci-fi, which naturally is how a movie should be. Explosions are cool, but pretty much any movie in any genre can be good if it has good character development. In my mind it’s how Pixar kicks Dreamworks ass regularly.

One random thing I saw this morning involves video games. Which I know none of you regularly play any more, but I figure with our geeky pasts you’ll appreciate the jokes.

First some history…

Some of you may have heard about the Hot Coffee Mod for Grand Theft Auto. Basically in the latest iteration there was some hidden content that the developer, Rockstar games, looked into but decided not to use. This occurs often in the games industry because you could easily pull that content out 3 weeks before shipping it out and find out a big indrectly related section stops working because of it. A while after the games release a group of people playing with modifying the game content found the hidden content and all hell broke loose.

This content contained a sex minigame where instead of just alluding to you getting busy with some girl you just took on a date you actually get busy with her. I’ve never played the game but my understanding is that the actual control of the minigame is something along the lines of a 14 year old trying to remove a bra one-handed. Maybe that’s why they scrapped it, being a bunch of developer nerds, they couldn’t figure out how sex actually works.

In any event this created a huge uproar because everyone knows that parents don’t actually pay attention to what games their kids are playing. Not to mention the fact that you needed one of those cheating devices like the old Game Shark’s for your Playstation2 to get at the content.

Every parent moderately paying attention screamed, “If my kid is going to see boobies it’s gonna be cause they’re up late watching HBO or digging through the Playboy’s in my closet!”

Back to today

Sorry, this is getting long..

After everyone in D.C. started getting involved we got our lovely friend Jack Thompson going on a publicity binge. He even claimed he would donate $10,000 to a charity if someone would make some game he came up with. Naturally he backed out when someone actually made a game.

Picking up the slack, Tycho and Gabe

Of the hillarious Penny Arcade fame make the donation for him… In his name… He cries…

Sorry, I’m not even sure where I was going with this. It sounded a lot funnier knowing the whole back story and hearing the quick blurb. The back story really kills the humor. My bad, I’m posting it anyway for posterity… And cause I just spent 20 minutes writing it down when I should have been working.

I had to break the silence somehow…

So, on a positive note: they’re fixing the ship and flying the students to their next three ports in the meantime. Sarah’s gonna finish the academic week out in Hawaii, then she’ll be flown to China, Hong Kong and then Vietnam where they’ll meet back up with the ship and resume their normal itinerary. Yay!

Ahh, now to go finish plotting out the trip to South Africa – and my financial demise. :)

New Years

Dec 1, 01:04 PM · from the mouth of Jake

Do we all have any plans for this year? I know poor Jimmy is soooo far away, but TyTy might be around, and bring the bass amp (don’t forget), and the rest of us are within a couple hour drive. Could we set something up so Jackie and I aren’t stuck at my rents house watching Pete?

Well actually, if we don’t have another venue there’s always my rents house, and we’d have it all to ourselves, and Pete. Any ideas?

Leaving Kids Behind at Walmart

Oct 27, 02:32 PM · from the mouth of Jake

I’m sure you guys remember Andy’s aggressive stance on No Child Left Behind. How it’s giving more money to schools who perform better and less money to schools who don’t. So it’s basically ass backward. The kids who need money don’t get any, and the kids who live in towns like Avon get gold cock rings.

Well Jackie has to write a paper on education and she wanted to compare public and catholic/private schools. We stumbled across an interesting web site about catholic schools in CT.

The first thing you notice is that the government is cutting even more funding out of No Child Left Behind.

But then you scroll down and you can see the breakup of how much money the catholic schools in CT get in annual funding from NCLB. Wait a second, do you mean to tell me that St. Catherine Academy in Bridgeport only got $97 this year? While good old Xavier, with all those destitute BMW driving 16 year olds got $3,796.

That seems soooo fair. Oh yeah, and if you were wondering, that’s how much the school gets. Not each student. So even Xavier’s cut looks tiny.

Anyone wanna go dig some money out of our couches and give it to St. Catherine Academy?
