Mario Paint Composer.I know you guys remember goofing around with Mario Paint on the SNES. Especially you, Andy. Well someone created a port of it in Adobe Director. Enjoy!

We're putting the band back together.

Feb 27, 04:48 PM · from the mouth of Jake

Well I saw something a while ago that made me think of you guys. However it was something (especially after researching some more) that would be pretty ludicrous. But maybe when the technology improves…

eJamming: Skype for musicians

The idea is to let musicians practice together even when they can’t get together physically, or to let students and teachers work together remotely.

So the theory goes we could prepare for future weddings by rehearsing over the Internet. But as the article mentions without being able to see each other and the fact that costs money (per musician) it’s not a very practical solution.

eMusic saves the day!

Jan 8, 04:35 PM · from the mouth of Tyler

So was sitting at my desk thinking, “I need something new to listen to.” So I clicked on over to eMusic and within 30 seconds, I found it. The Duhks!

I’ve heard of The Duhks, and have heard a couple of their songs on the radio. Well, after listening to a few of the sample tracks from their album Your Daughters & Your Sons, I was sold. Great stuff. Highly recommended.

The Duhks play a delightful flavor of acoustic music. They’re Canadian, which with a few exceptions (ahem, Shania Twain, Avril Lavigne…) counts for bonus points in the musical world. Technically they’re classified as bluegrass, but they’ve got a lot of other influences. Celtic music, especially. Their self-titled release was produced by Béla Fleck. The music is gorgeous. Beautiful female singer (men sing on a couple tracks), tasty harmonies, toe-tappin’ rhythms.

Get thee to eMusic!

Music for kids and grownups

Dec 6, 11:39 PM · from the mouth of Andy

First, an NPR story about kids music that grownups will also like, with a link to a blog on the subject called Zooglobble. My favorite bandname of those profiled in the story: the Wee Hairy Beasties. You’ll notice, they’re signed to Bloodshot Records!

Also, my favorite teacher colleague today sent me a link to some weird foreign site that has a large collection of Beatles videos from their entire career. Check out especially “Yer Blues” performed with John Lennon singing, Mitch Mitchell on drums, Eric Clapton on Guitar, and Keith Richards on bass!

Pandora

Nov 14, 06:23 PM · from the mouth of Jim

I’ve only been mucking around for a little while now, but Pandora seems to have a ton of potential for some neat music discovery. It looks like they even have an ad. driven free version. I foresee signing up…

In the New York Times

Oct 18, 07:23 PM · from the mouth of Andy

There was a great Times article today about porters. They talk about the history and recent revival of the whole porter genre, then they rank a few of them. Strangely enough, I’ve had a few of the ones that they mentioned. We brought Anchor Porter with us to Maine, their #10. I swear I’ve had the Geary’s before – that’s #1! And one of the beers they mention as terrible, the Rogue Porter, was the one I tried at Sunset Grill in Boston on the way up to Maine. And they’re right – it wasn’t very good!

They also ran a bit about the Russian download site that Tyty once mentioned, AllOfMP3 . Looks like someone wants to shut them down!

I hope everyone’s well. Who’s gonna be around for Thanksgiving?

Ni!

I'm a little verklempt - discuss! [2]

Hardware Store Video

Oct 26, 09:37 PM · from the mouth of Jake

On Weird Al’s last album he had a lovely little ditty call Hardware Store. Some high school kid named Kurt Larson made a music video for his class. We could have done this!! :)

Coldplay X&Y

Jun 7, 02:56 PM · from the mouth of Jim

Hey girls-

I just picked up the latest Coldplay album, X&Y at Target and I can say that I already like the crap out of it. I’m listening to it as I’m typing this and have only heard about 50%, but I’m diggin’ it big time.

I kind of took a chance since I haven’t heard much Coldplay before, but the little that I had heard, I enjoyed, so I figured “what the hell…” I’m rather glad I did and i’d highly recommend it.

So yeah… go buy it.

Now.

Love,
Jim

Release Candidate 3

Apr 19, 12:19 AM · from the mouth of Jake

I updated us to the latest version of Textpattern. Some things still don’t work, like the search box and the category drop down. And some new things have broken, like the click an author name and get a listing of articles.

I finished Ambershed.com for the most part, so before I move on to something totally new I figure I’ll tidy up around here a little bit. Let me know if you notice anything new that’s broken and I’ll add to the list of things to repair.

Update: If anyone has any ideas on what to do about a logo and the text up top I’m all ears. I don’t want it to be too outlandish, but I’d like some text that isn’t so boring and that we can turn into an actual graphic to overlay onto the background images. If you need some web sites to peruse for ideas let me know. I’m having the same problem with the Band’s logo…

Tell me what you think!! [4]
