Microsoft designs the iPod packaging

Mar 1, 07:30 PM · from the mouth of Jim

Methinks a few people in this crowd will appreciate this. Make sure you have sound available; the music really makes it.

BTW oh great Iackypoo – it seems as though I’ve had problems posting comments since the upgrade. It presents the preview, but never actually posts after I attempt to submit the final version. Just an FYI…

Update: don’t kill yourself jake – I’m starting to suspect it’s our big f*ing piece of SHIOT proxy server here; I suspect it’s not refreshing the post data or something properly. I’ll try commenting from home since you guys are all seemingly working. The following is my reply to the TyTy.

Hehe – I think my woman would not be happy. :) Last night she was like, “you can pick one: we shoot canon and use mac, or we shoot nikon and use PC.” Though, I later found out that her biggest gripe with the mac was the lack of two buttons (which I shared until I got this G4 and realized that you could use normal two button meese.) She seems more open to the idea of a mac in the house now. :) You really do have to admit that single button mice are inferior – I’ll never let that argument fizzle. :-D It still astounds me that apple just won’t let go…

Either way, as nice as OS X is, my current workstation’ll stay where it is for at least a year or so longer. I’ve tuned it out so much for processing that it’s getting the job done quite well for now.

Now I’m just hurting to have 10.4.x on the G4. I’m dying to try Adobe’s Lightroom beta, but they don’t support Panther. Grrrr…

On another note – mac people don’t make, umm, how you say, “acquiring” software as easy as it should be. Though .dmg files are a tremendously well executed use of great technology, people seem to be over using them. I pulled a certain DVD with some “stuff” on it, later to find that someone had just dumped the contents of “smaller stuffs” into it and partitioned it off. It was all swell and neat from a technological distribution point of view, but not worth a shit if you needed to boot off of one of these “sub-things.” In any case, it was just kinda funny to me. I think I have a “thing” pulling right now that is a true .iso image that’ll be bootable… udderwise I may have to have one of yous guys make (another) attempt at supplying for my needs. And no, I’m not talking technological needs… raarrrr… ;)

Penny Arcade does He-Man

Dec 19, 01:18 AM · from the mouth of Jake

Lately Wikipedia has been under fire because its critics point out how when anyone can edit anything you sometimes get malicious editors screwing things up.

Well Penny Arcade, in their own, little, twisted way decided to say something about it.

Hardware Store Video

On Weird Al’s last album he had a lovely little ditty call Hardware Store. Some high school kid named Kurt Larson made a music video for his class. We could have done this!! :)

Totally random thoughts...

Oct 18, 12:27 PM · from the mouth of Jake

I haven’t anyhting lately, I hadn’t even posted anything exciting over on Re¢ently till last night. That is since writing about Serenity a couple weeks ago. Which reminds me, if you can go see it, do. It’s more about the characters than the sci-fi, which naturally is how a movie should be. Explosions are cool, but pretty much any movie in any genre can be good if it has good character development. In my mind it’s how Pixar kicks Dreamworks ass regularly.

One random thing I saw this morning involves video games. Which I know none of you regularly play any more, but I figure with our geeky pasts you’ll appreciate the jokes.

First some history…

Some of you may have heard about the Hot Coffee Mod for Grand Theft Auto. Basically in the latest iteration there was some hidden content that the developer, Rockstar games, looked into but decided not to use. This occurs often in the games industry because you could easily pull that content out 3 weeks before shipping it out and find out a big indrectly related section stops working because of it. A while after the games release a group of people playing with modifying the game content found the hidden content and all hell broke loose.

This content contained a sex minigame where instead of just alluding to you getting busy with some girl you just took on a date you actually get busy with her. I’ve never played the game but my understanding is that the actual control of the minigame is something along the lines of a 14 year old trying to remove a bra one-handed. Maybe that’s why they scrapped it, being a bunch of developer nerds, they couldn’t figure out how sex actually works.

In any event this created a huge uproar because everyone knows that parents don’t actually pay attention to what games their kids are playing. Not to mention the fact that you needed one of those cheating devices like the old Game Shark’s for your Playstation2 to get at the content.

Every parent moderately paying attention screamed, “If my kid is going to see boobies it’s gonna be cause they’re up late watching HBO or digging through the Playboy’s in my closet!”

Back to today

Sorry, this is getting long..

After everyone in D.C. started getting involved we got our lovely friend Jack Thompson going on a publicity binge. He even claimed he would donate $10,000 to a charity if someone would make some game he came up with. Naturally he backed out when someone actually made a game.

Picking up the slack, Tycho and Gabe

Of the hillarious Penny Arcade fame make the donation for him… In his name… He cries…

Sorry, I’m not even sure where I was going with this. It sounded a lot funnier knowing the whole back story and hearing the quick blurb. The back story really kills the humor. My bad, I’m posting it anyway for posterity… And cause I just spent 20 minutes writing it down when I should have been working.

Happy Rosh Hashanah!/I'm a dumbass

Sep 16, 12:56 PM · from the mouth of Andy

Thank Holy Moses, I have the day off from schul today.

And I have some humor to share with you, courtesy of the man behind Da Ali G Show:

Funny link that wasn’t a link before…

Now you may have noticed that this isn’t actually a link. That’s because I couldn’t figure out how to make it into one on textpattern. I also couldn’t seem to get back to our earliest articles on the main site, where I’m pretty sure jake explained all this… even when I clicked on the archive for August 30, it only showed me about the 10 most recent postings. And the search function doesn’t seem to do anything either. Am I just dumb?

I’m going back to bed now. =)

River of Beer Found in Germany

Sep 1, 11:00 AM · from the mouth of Jake

I can’t believe it’s taken this long to find the amazing river of beer.

Fresh water from an underground spring flows down a riverbed surrounded by wild hops and barley plants. As the plants are periodically washed into the river, fermentation eventually occurs. The result is a delicious golden lager, which bubbles through the woodlands.

Hooray for the Weekly World News, Not as good as articles from The Onion. But hey beggers can’t be choosers.
